1. Wireless AP working mode:
There are five main working modes of wireless AP:
(1) AP mode: wireless client access, IP is assigned by router DHCP
(2) WDS mode (wireless distributed system/wireless bridging mode): connect to the wired network wirelessly, without providing wireless client access, all APs are on the same network, and the IP is assigned by the router's DHCP.
WDS classification: A: WDS-P2P mode (wireless point-to-point bridge mode) B: WDS-P2MP mode (wireless point-to-multipoint bridge mode)
(3) WDS+AP mode: Connect multiple wireless networks to provide wireless client access. All APs are in the same network. The IP is assigned by the wireless router's DHCP or the AP's own DHCP. Only one of the APs needs to enable DHCP
(4) WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) WISP is used to connect the wan port of your own wireless device to the other party's wireless through wireless, so as to go online. The LAN port IP is assigned by your own DHCP, and you don't need to set your own Mac address on the other party's router , Own routing function
(5) Repeater mode (wireless repeater mode): the wireless signal is provided by the wireless router, the wireless signal is extended, and the wireless client accesses, and the IP is allocated by the DHCP of the wireless router
(6) APClient mode (AP client mode or Wireless Client): AP Client end users are wired access, and the IP is assigned by the router's DHCP, which is used to connect the wired network to another network through wireless
Summary: The DHCP function is: WDS+AP, WISP
The router function is: WISP
2. Application topology of five working modes
1. Wireless access point (AP) mode In this mode, the device is equivalent to a wireless switch. It can achieve wireless access, wireless to wired, and wireless to wide area network access. The most common one can provide wireless client access, such as wireless network card access.
AP mode can simply convert wired network transmission to wireless transmission. If you already have a wired router and want to use a wireless network, then this method just meets your requirements
2. WDS mode
In WDS mode, each device is connected to each other through MAC address, and requires the same SSID, channel, password, and encryption method
2.1: WDS point-to-point bridge (WDS-P2P) mode
Between two wired LANs, they are connected by two wireless APs, which can realize wireless interconnection and resource sharing between the two wired LANs, and can also realize the expansion of wired networks. In this mode, the AP does not support the access of wireless clients and can only be used as a wireless bridge.
Point-to-multipoint mode can connect multiple wired LANs through wireless APs without using network cables. This is used in network environments that require data connections but are inconvenient for wiring; if the "root AP" is set to point-to-multipoint Mode, other (up to 4) remote APs must be set to point-to-point mode.
3: WISP mode
WISP is used to connect the wan port of your own wireless device to the other party's wireless through wireless, so as to surf the Internet. The LAN port IP is assigned by your own DHCP
The difference between WISP and WDS is: WISP does not need to set its own Mac address on the other party's router WDS needs to set its own Mac address on the other party's router or AP
4. Wireless repeater (Repeater) mode
Repeater mode can realize signal relay and amplification, thereby extending the coverage of wireless network. It can be applied to places where the site is relatively open and it is not convenient to lay Ethernet cables. In this mode, it can support wireless client access at the same time.
AP wireless relay mode: each device can connect to each other through MAC address. When the distance between the two local area networks exceeds the maximum transmission distance allowed by the wireless local area network product, or there are relatively high or large interference obstacles between the two networks, the wireless relay solution can be used.
5. Wireless client (Client) mode
In this mode, each device is connected to each other through the MAC address, and connected to the Ethernet interface of the wired network card through the LAN port of the device. This device can be used as a wireless network card. When you choose this method, you must use a wired network card or connect to your device through a wired network, because in this way the device will be used as a wireless network card. Please set the device to be on the same network as the network you are using. segment.
If you encounter wiring problems, fail to place the ADSL MODEM and wireless in the ideal position, and do not want to pull the network cable, you can connect to the wireless AP or wireless through the W300A infrastructure mode (use the device as a wireless network card) , This way can meet your needs.
